Heading to The Ranch: What to Expect, What Really Matters, and Why You Should Enjoy Every Minute...

Every year around this time, families from all over the country load up their trucks, campers, and vans and make the trip to Loretta Lynn's Ranch. For some, it's their first time. For others, it's become a yearly tradition.

No matter which group you fall into, I wanted to share a few thoughts from someone who has spent his entire life around motocross.

I've been the kid dreaming about racing there.

I've been the professional racer chasing results.

I've worked inside some of the biggest brands in our industry.

Now I'm simply a dad walking the pits with my son, Landon, trying to make memories that will last a lifetime.

And honestly...that perspective has changed everything.

The Ranch Is Bigger Than Racing

If this is your first trip to Loretta's, you're probably thinking about lap times, gate picks, bike setup, and where your rider might finish.

Those things matter.

But they aren't what you'll remember twenty years from now.

You'll remember watching your kid roll onto the starting line with butterflies in their stomach.

You'll remember walking through Vendor Row together.

You'll remember late-night conversations around the camper.

You'll remember helping change an air filter at midnight, sharing laughs with neighboring families, and watching the sunset over the Tennessee hills.

Those moments become the real trophies.

Expect Long Days

Loretta's isn't a weekend local race.

It's a marathon.

There will be early mornings, long waits, changing weather, bike maintenance, and plenty of unexpected challenges.

Bring extra parts.

Bring extra snacks.

Bring more water than you think you'll need.

And most importantly...

Bring patience.

Kids feed off our emotions. If we're stressed out, they usually are too.

Every Rider Earned Their Spot

One thing I love about Loretta's is knowing everyone there worked hard to qualify.

Nobody accidentally ends up on that gate.

Whether your rider qualifies first or squeaks in on the final transfer spot, they earned the opportunity to race against the best amateur riders in the country.

That's something to be proud of before the gate even drops.

Don't Chase Perfection

It's easy to get caught up comparing your rider to everyone else.

Someone always has a nicer bike.

Someone has a bigger motorhome.

Someone has factory support.

Someone has a mechanic.

Someone has a trainer.

Comparison steals joy faster than almost anything.

Focus on your own family.

Focus on your own rider.

Celebrate personal victories.

Those are the things that move kids forward.

Keep Racing Fun

This might be the biggest lesson I've learned as a dad.

Kids don't usually quit motocross because they're tired of riding motorcycles.

They quit because somewhere along the way it stopped being fun.

Results come and go.

Championships fade.

Trophies collect dust.

But the memories of loading up every weekend with your family never leave.

If your child leaves Loretta's wanting to race again next weekend...

That's a successful trip.
